NHS staff should be able to come to work without fear of violence, abuse or harassment from patients or their relatives.
Violent, aggressive or abusive behaviour towards any member of the practice staff or other persons on the practice premises will not be tolerated. The NHS operates a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence, aggression and abuse of staff, and the practice has the right to remove patients who behave in this way from its list with immediate effect in order to safeguard practice staff, patients and other persons using Tranent Health Centre.
Unacceptable behaviour includes (but is not restricted to) aggression, disorder, intimidation, threats and bullying, and applies to behaviour within Tranent Health Centre, during home visits, as part of phone calls and emails, and on social media. In cases where violent, aggressive or abusive behaviour is deemed to be illegal, the practice will refer the matter to the Police in addition to taking action to remove the offending patient from its list.
Full details of our policy with regard to violent, aggressive and abusive behaviour can be seen by clicking in the link below.
Please ask at Reception if you require this document in an alternative format.
Where patients are disruptive and display aggressive and/or intimidating behaviour and refuse to leave the premises, staff are instructed to dial 999 for Police assistance, and charges may then be brought against these individuals.
